Rhinoplasty

Nose reshaping (Revision Rhinoplasty)/ Nose job (Rhinoplasty) is the most sophisticated cosmetic surgery. It is designed to alter and refine the shape and size of the nose in order to fit harmoniously with the rest of the face.

While there is no upper age limit for having this operation, patients may be advised to wait until they turn 15 (when the nose is fully developed) before undergoing Rhinoplasty.

In evaluating you for Rhinoplasty, Dr. Korkis will examine your nose both externally and internally. The skin quality, size, shape, profile and tip of your nose must be carefully studied. It is important to have a clear idea of how you would like your nose to look as well know there are some limitations to cosmetic nasal surgery. On occasions, Chin augmentation or Eye Lid lift surgery (Blepharoplasty) to reverse the signs of aging can be performed at the same sitting in order to achieve a more pleasing facial balance.

Breathing problems related to the internal nasal structures such as an accompanying deviated nasal septum may also be addressed as they can be corrected at the same time as nose reshaping.

With Rhinoplasty, work is done on the cartilage and bone that form the structure of your nose. Certain bones may need to be altered in order to make your nose look narrower and straighter. If your nose needs to be augmented, it can be accomplished using cartilage from your nose, ear or occasionally, a synthetic implant may be introduced in order to obtain a more pleasing result.

In most cases, the incisions will be placed inside your nose so they will not be visible. In some cases an open approach Rhinoplasty is carried out whereby a short incision is fashioned across the skin between your nostrils.

At the end of the surgery, a small splint is placed on the nose and removed about one week later. Most of the swelling and discoloration around the eyes tends to resolve within a week .You may use a concealing makeup if you wish and return to work one to two weeks after the surgery. Swelling, however, can last a number of weeks or months. Skin numbness and mild nasal obstruction may occur but is usually temporary. Occasionally revisional surgery may be necessary to refine the result.

The information about this surgery is profound. Dr. Korkis will discuss it with you at length during the consultation.
